Allow Apple Remote Desktop to access your Mac



  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, click Sharing, then select the Remote Management tickbox.

    If prompted, select the tasks remote users are permitted to perform. If you’re not prompted, click Options to select tasks.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • Select “All users” to let anyone with a user account on your Mac share your screen.

    • Select “Only these users”, click the Add button, then select the users who can share your Mac.

  3. Click Computer Settings, then select options for your Mac. If people connect using a VNC viewer, you need to set a password.

Apple Remote Desktop sells for $ 80 in the Mac App Store, but you do not have to spend money to connect remotely to your Mac. There are free solutions - including those built on your Mac.

These solutions allow you to remotely access your Mac's desktop, whether you're using another computer on the same local network, or connecting to your Mac desktop from half a tablet worldwide.

Screen sharing


Your Mac has a built-in screen sharing feature, which is essentially a VNC server with some additional features. This means that you can use a standard VNC client to control your Mac, and VNC clients are available for all platforms.

To enable screen sharing, click the Apple icon in the menu bar at the top of your screen and select System Preferences. Click the Share icon in the System Preferences window and enable the Screen Sharing checkbox.

This control panel tells you how to connect. If you have another Mac on the local network, you can open the Finder window, look in the Shared section of the sidebar, select the computer you want to control, and click on the share screen. If you don't have a Mac or want to use another VNC client, you can connect to the IP address displayed here. Remember that the IP address shown above is an internal IP address, where you can find your Mac on your local network, which means you cannot access the Internet without forwarding the port.

Click the Computer Settings button to set the password. If you do not set a password, you must accept the confirmation dialog on the Mac each time you wish to control it remotely.

If you have another Mac, you can set up screen sharing to work on the Internet without the need for other software. Open the System Preferences window, click the iCloud icon, go back to using my Mac, and go through the setup process. When you use another Mac and you're logged in to the same iCloud account, your other Mac appears in the Finder under the shared section of the sidebar and you can connect to its screen on the Internet.

If you want to connect to a Mac that is not on the Mac, you need to forward the ports for VNC access. If you do not know what you are doing, do not recommend it, as it is more complicated and has security issues. If you want to connect to the Internet from another device, we recommend you to use one of the easy options below for screen sharing.

TeamViewer


LogMine recently discontinued its free Remote Desktop Access program, but TeamWeaver is still around and is offering this feature for free. Team Viewer is available for Mac as it is available for Windows, Linux, iPad, iPhone, Android, and Windows Phone.

Download your favorite Team Viewer client from TeamViewer's Mac Download page. TeamViewer offers the full version, but you can also download the TeamViewer host application running as a system service and optimized for 24/7 access. You can use Team Viewer in many different ways - always set it to listen with a password or call it to your Mac and use temporary login details when you want to use it.

Team Viewer is particularly convenient because you don't have to worry about more ports or other detailed server configuration issues.



Chrome Remote Desktop


 If you are already using Chrome, you can try the Google Remote Desktop extension created by Google. It works the same way as it does on Windows. Install Chrome Remote Desktop Extension on Chrome on your Mac, open it in the New Tab page, and go through its setup process.

Then you can click on the Share button to get the temporary access code. Install Chrome Remote Desktop Extension on another Mac, Windows, Linux, or Chrome OS computer, and you'll be able to connect the extension to your Mac. You can also download mobile apps for iPhone, iPad, and Android.

You can also choose to set an extension so that you can connect to a more permanent password remotely. It's ideal for accessing your Mac via the Internet.
